[She's at the hospital, because New Years Eve doesn't necessarily mean that he gets the time off. One of the nurses saw her and already went to go get him, and she's waiting in one of the waiting rooms, wearing her very brand-new boots because she can, and is bundled up otherwise.
Already someone - a guy, he's new - is trying to chat her up, but he's failing, because she is giving her usual one-word answers, and she looks at him like he might be dinner just as Robert comes around the corner.]

[Saya, we don't eat the interns. Unless they come on really strong. Chase assesses the situation from the waiting room doorway, and although he knows she'll know he's there, he comes up behind her anyway. And drapes his arms around her, his chin on her shoulder.]
You would not believe the afternoon I've had. Reopened a cardiac patient because his chest was ticking. Pretty sure the last surgeon he had's getting fired.
[He smiles at the junior doctor over her shoulder, half masked by her hair.]

Instead, it's an envelope with a card in it that's been enchanted to sing and, scribbled on it: Happy Birthday! I couldn't think of anything else to get you, so I hope this will do. You probably don't even remember it. I found it in the living room and I thought you might like it. Have a wonderful day, Chase! I'm glad you're my friend. Love, Ginny.

At first she thinks he's finally left, that coming back after so long was no guarantee. But Holly checks the Hall and he isn't there, either. So she goes to the hospital, powering down her suit and actually walking through the doors—walking, not being wheeled in, there's a first—and asking around for him in the busy waiting room.

[The curse rolls in at midnight, and Chase is still in the hospital working an overnight shift, late, when a nurse comes in. Doctor, did anyone tell you that your wife left your daughter in your office three hours ago?
It's something Saya does, occasionally, if she gets hungry and needs to go hunting. She's not supposed to, and she tries not to, but it happens every once in a while. What's not usual is that Saya doesn't text him, or that a nurse doesn't come find him right away. If he checks his phone there it is, a message from Saya. It couldn't be helped. It was either this or eat her. I had to burn some blood when I thought I heard someone come into the warehouse.
Magda's a bit of a night owl, anyway. She's in her pajamas when Chase comes to find her, sitting cross-legged in his chair and reading a book.]

Honestly, it's not just that there are sharp things in there if you really try looking for them (mostly locked away, considering) or that a child alone in this city might as well carry a sign saying easy target (she's a smart kid and his office only really sees one predator stop by on a regular basis). It's that if she's left alone long enough, she moves all his stuff.]

[He comes over, sweeping her off his chair and stealing the spot before pulling her back.]
